Meet Tanja Schmeer
Tanja is an experienced, dedicated and supportive massage therapist. She initially qualified in 1999 in Integrative massage which blends eastern and western massage styles to create an effective, and eclectic massage which is tailored to the individual’s physical and emotional needs.
Using a variety of styles including swedish, ayurvedic, thai, shiatsu, pulsing, acupressure, cranial sacral therapy and deep tissue oil massage she has created her own style of healing work which concentrates on listening to the body and responding in a nurturing but strong way.
Thai Yoga Massage
Often described as ‘lazy yoga’ this amazing therapy uses acupressure, energy line massage and applied yoga-based stretches to align the body, increase flexibility and relieve tension in the body. Thai massage is especially beneficial for lower back problems, hips and legs and provides a full body feeling of rejuvenation. It is an excellent accompaniment to regular yoga, helping to release areas of restriction and thus improve yoga practice but is also good for people who do not practice yoga but need the benefits of stretching.
Thai massage is applied through loose clothing on a futon and although hour sessions are possible if particular areas of the body are concentrated on, for a full body massage 90 mins or 2 hours is advisable.
Adapted from Thai massage this is an excellent way to address and prevent pregnancy related problems such as lower back pain, aching legs and feet and stiffness in the shoulders and neck. The massage can be deep where needed but also offers relaxation and essential time out to help with general tiredness, sleep issues and emotional well-being. Oil based pregnancy massage is also available. Both advisable from the second trimester.
Oil Massage Options
Deep tissue massage – a therapeutic session to address a specific physical problem. Especially good for upper back, shoulder and neck problems, migraines/persistent headaches and an essential for counteracting the physical stress created by working at a computer all day.
Relaxing massage – a full body oil massage that creates a general sense of being nurtured and having time for yourself. More gentle than deep tissue but strong work can still be incorporated to address any specific tension areas. Particularly good for depression, stress, anxiety and sleep problems or for people who benefit from a gentler approach to bodywork.
Integrative massage – A session that combines a variety of massage styles tailored to your specific needs. Tanja will use the therapies that will give you optimum results according to what your body may need. The most common combination is Thai Yoga Massage with Deep Tissue Oil Massage – the thai providing essential stretching for flexibility, leg relaxation and lower back tension and the oil working deeply on alleviating upper back and shoulder problems. Any of the therapies can be combined to create your own unique massage experience.
Reiki – Hands on healing which is extremely relaxing and works on balancing the energy systems of the body. I combine Reiki with gentle acupressure point work and foot massage to create a deeply relaxing experience to release stress, energise the body and mind, increase positivity and enhance personal growth.
Mizan Abdominal Therapy – Uses traditional healing techniques to address conditions involving reproductive organs, the digestive system and emotional health. The abdominal and lower back massage techniques reposition organs that have dropped and restricted the flow of blood, lymph, nerve and chi energy. It aims to restore the body to its natural balance. It can help with pregnancy, menstrual problems, fertility issues, menopause symptoms, bladder complaints, digestive disorders, lower back ache, low energy and headaches.
Sound Healing – Vibrational medicine….a sonic massage……using sounds created by the voice, tuning forks, Tibetan and crystal singing bowls and other healing instruments to create your personal soundscape which enables the body and mind to relax at a profoundly deep level to enhance personal healing. Sacred mantras and affirmations are also used for emotional release and to enhance well-being.
Tanja is working in accordance with current Government Regulations for Close Contact Occupations. This is subject to change however currently;
- Tanja will wear a mask and face visor
- You will be asked to wear a face covering (unless you are exempt) but not when lying face down
- 30 minutes will be left between appointments for cleaning and airing of the room
- Tanja will contact you prior to the appointment to carry out CoVid monitoring
- If you have symptoms or have had close contact with someone with symptoms in the last 14 days Tanja will rearrange your appointment
- You are advised to bring a drink
- Please also bring socks or inside shoes should you need to use the toilet facilities within The Yoga Space
